Choosing batteries - things to note when shipping

Batteries are considered hazardous material for air transport and this is the most likely transport from Dublin to Lulea.

So in selecting batteries for your project, consider if they are going to have to be flown anywhere! If so, choose batteries that are of a sealed, non-spillable type and therefore meet the requirements of Special Provision A67 of IATA Air Transport Regulations. You can confirm this from the spec sheets.

However there is one condition which must be met and this requires that a special notation be made on the air way bill (AWB) as follows:-

The wording “NOT RESTRICTED” and the Special Provision # A67 must be included in the description of the battery on the AWB. This is a requirement under IATA 8.2.6

This is what we were told, however it would be prudent to verify all this with your shipping company!

And we start!

Right! The plan is to try and use this blog to log what happens and to post a few piccies if possible.

Yesterday we packed up all the gear and this morning it left Intel for Lulea University. With a bit of luck, it should be there by next Monday!
